Over the past few months, some old and some new fitness activities have been trending. Explore these activities and consider whether you'd like to try them or incorporate them into your facility's service options.

Rebounding (Mini-Trampoline Cardio)

  • What it is: Low-impact cardio performed on a mini trampoline.

  • Why it’s trending: A 1980 NASA-led study revealed that just ten minutes of rebounding can outperform 30 minutes of jogging in terms of oxygen uptake and cardiovascular efficiency. It’s gaining popularity on social media and is praised for joint-friendliness, lymphatic benefits, bone density improvement, and overall accessibility for all ages and fitness levels.

Japanese Walking (Nihon Aruki)

  • What it is: Alternating between three minutes of brisk walking and three minutes of slower walking, with purposeful arm swings.

  • Why it's trending: Developed for older adults, this method has been shown to help control weight, lower blood pressure, and preserve leg strength and aerobic health over time.

Nordic Walking

  • What it is: Walking with specially designed poles—think cross-country skiing on land.

  • Why it’s trending: Backed by Harvard studies, it offers a full-body workout that boosts cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and reduces joint strain—making it ideal for all fitness levels.

Slashercise (Horror-Themed Workouts)

  • What it is: An immersive horror-style fitness experience involving faux knives, chainsaws, slasher film visuals, retro 1980s vibes, and moves like “The Final Girl,” horror Pilates, dance classes, and yoga variants.

  • Why it’s trending: Launched in May 2025 at a Burbank, California studio, it’s a novel blend of entertainment, empowerment and physical exertion—an unexpected but growing niche in fitness.
